After-death arrangements
Registering a death
There are various after-death arrangements available in Hong Kong. Before any of these ceremonies can be carried out, the deceased will need to have been issued a death certificate. This can be done at the death registry of the Immigration Department within 24 hours after the death. The following documents will need to be in hand:
- ID card of the applicant (family member / friend);
- ID card of the deceased;
- “Medical Certificate of the Cause of Death” from the doctor who attended the deceased; and
If the deceased is to be cremated:
- “Medical Certificate (Cremation)” from the doctor who attended deceased.
Other permits are also required for Cremation or Burial.
